Ravindra Jadeja was born on 6 December 1988 in a Gujarati Rajput family in Navagam-Ghed, Jamnagar, Saurashtra. Jadeja’s full name is Ravindra Anirudh Singh Jadeja. His father’s name is Anirudh Singh Jadeja and mother’s name is Lata Jadeja.

Ravindra Jadeja received his early education from Shardagram School, Navagam-Ghed, Gujarat. It is said that he left college to focus on his cricket career.

Ravindra Jadeja started his career in 2005 by playing for India in Under-19. He was 16 years old then. After which Jadeja was selected for the 2006 Under-19 World Cup. He was made the vice-captain of the Indian team in the 2008 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, in which he played an important role in India’s victory. Jadeja made his first-class debut for West Zone in the 2006–07 Duleep Trophy and for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy.

Ravindra Jadeja made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League in 2008. That season, Jadeja scored 135 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 131.06. He played an important role in Rajasthan Royals winning the first season IPL trophy.

Seeing his brilliant performance, team captain Shane Warne called him a ‘rising superstar’ and nicknamed him ‘Rockstar’.  Jadeja performed brilliantly in the 2009 IPL season and scored 295 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 110.90. However, he was banned from the 2010 IPL due to a contract dispute. After that in 2011, the new team Kochi Tuskers was bought in the auction for Rs 4.37 crore. Under the leadership of Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene, he gave some brilliant all-round performances and won many important matches. 

In 2011, Kochi Tuskers were removed from IPL, after which, seeing his talent, Chennai Super Kings bought him for Rs 9.72 crore in 2012. Jadeja was the most expensive player in the 2012 IPL player auction. Jadeja performed very well under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and that season he scored 191 runs and took 12 wickets for CSK.  ODI cricket-

On the basis of his strong all-round performance in domestic cricket, Ravindra Jadeja was included in the 15-man squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka in 2009.  But he had to wait a long time to play his debut match and he got a chance to debut in the last match of the series on 8 February 2009.  In his first ODI International match, Jadeja played an unbeaten inning of 60 runs.  However, the Indian team lost the match.  Since then Jadeja has been an integral part of the Indian ODI team and has performed well with the bat as well as the ball for the last few years.

 After making his debut in ODI, Ravindra Jadeja made a place in the Indian T20 team in 2009.  On 10 February 2009, Jadeja played his first T20 International match and scored 5 runs for the team.  But Jadeja was criticized for his slow batting in India’s defeat against England in the 2009 World Twenty20.  However, Jadeja improved his game and retained his place in the team with his impressive performance.  Jadeja, while batting at number 6 or lower for India, became the batsman who scored the most runs in an innings in a T20 match.

Before marriage, Ravindra Jadeja came into limelight due to one of his affairs. In 2013, Jadeja was spotted with a girl named Chetna Jha.  According to media reports, both of them were spotted for the first time in Jaipur during Australia’s tour of India in 2013. Many photos of Chetna and Jadeja, fashion designers by profession, were going viral on social media. Once during the IPL, Chetna was also seen in the team bus with Jadeja. It is believed that this relationship lasted for 2 to 3 years and Jadeja broke up with her and married Rivaba. However, Jadeja never gave any statement about his relationship with Chetna.

 Jadeja-Anderson controversy

The dispute between Ravindra Jadeja and James Anderson was much discussed during the India-England Test series in 2014.  During the match, both of them got into an altercation with each other and after which the matter went to ICC. Indian players had alleged that when the players were returning to the pavilion during lunch, Anderson pushed Jadeja and abused him. 

The English team had filed level two counter-charges against Jadeja, but the match referee considered it a level one offense and deducted 50 percent of his match fee. ICC had already framed charges against Jadeja and given clean chit to Anderson.  But later he gave clean chit to both of them.

Due to Ravindra Jadeja’s mistake in the Indore Test of the Test series against New Zealand in 2016, New Zealand got 5 runs even before batting.  He got a warning for the first time for running in the middle of the pitch and for doing the same the second time, India suffered a loss. After this incident, Ravindra Jadeja was fined 50% of his match fee for violating Level 2 of the ICC Code of Conduct.  Apart from this, he also got three demerit points.
