Protestors demand resignation of PM Sheikh Hasina

According to a news portal ‘BDNews24’, the protesters demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and raised slogans demanding justice for those killed in the recent protests over reservation reforms. The protesters also gathered at the Science Lab intersection in the capital on the first day of the non-cooperation movement and raised anti-government slogans.

‘The people who carried out the sabotage are not students, but terrorists’

Amid fresh outbreak of violence in many parts of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said that those carrying out vandalism in the name of protest are not students but terrorists and such elements need to be dealt with strictly.  The Prime Minister said that I appeal to the countrymen to strictly suppress these terrorists.

The meeting was attended by chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and other top security officials. The Prime Minister’s Security Advisor and the Home Minister were also present in the meeting.

Violence erupted after the death of more than 200 people

The renewed violence comes days after more than 200 people were killed in violent clashes between police and student protesters. The protesters are demanding an end to the controversial quota system, under which 30 percent reservation in government jobs was given to relatives of warriors of Bangladesh’s liberation war in 1971.
